PROBLEM
As an independent alternative asset management firm focused on North American middle-market opportunities in the infrastructure sector, Instar sought to build out its mid-market private equity investment team in Canada. This coincided with its hiring of a new Senior Managing Partner. DES was retained to identify and attract up to three investment professionals for the team, including Partners and Principals who would be responsible for developing investment theses, deal sourcing, leading transactions from end-to-end and serving as a mentor to more junior members of the investment team.
APPROACH
DES targeted candidates in private equity, infrastructure and pensions in Canada, the UK and the US. Our effort focused on individuals with 10-15 years of experience in both specialized investment roles (ie: sectors of importance to Instar) as well as generalists. After conducting a global search, we signed two candidates, including an American from a top-tier global investment firm who desired a move to Canada.
