PROBLEM

Roadpost hired DES to lead a search for its new CEO, as the founder had indicated a desire to take a step back after three decades. At the same time, there was a recognition of the need to bring in external capabilities to develop a roadmap to meet the needs of the changing landscape ahead.

Driving innovation was a key priority and competition was strong. With new entrants into the mobile communications arena, the goal was to identify leadership candidates who had experience in the space and an appreciation of the competition (ie: products, distribution, end markets), as well as demonstrated success in forward-looking (unrelated) industries.

APPROACH

Our search took us across Canada, into the US and over to Europe, given the range of players in this global market. We looked at a wide range of candidates from across industries, including people-tracking & safety, telecom / IoT solutions / connected-transportation solutions, mobile / wireless products, satellite communications / equipment providers and a range of consumerized “tech” products.

Interest was strong, including among candidates at direct competitors from a range of C-suite roles (marketing, GM, President and SVP). We were drawn to those who had backgrounds in product development, engineering, GTM launch strategies and those who brought an inspirational team-leadership style.
