PROBLEM

National Bank Financial sought a new Head of Investment Banking in keeping with its objective of becoming a Top 3 Dealer. The team required a well-known, highly respected deal maker with extensive relationships who was equally strong as a people leader to drive cultural change. Key to success was identifying senior candidates with enough runway, who would also fit into NBF’s unique partnership model and “one-firm” ethos.

APPROACH

We first conducted a marketplace feedback study among senior leaders to identify top candidates who excelled on the required leadership competencies – without revealing our client. After undertaking extensive mapping and profiling, we then approached selected candidates under NDA, ascertained their key motivators, working closely with our client throughout, given the sensitivity. As with all searches, we conducted thorough in-person candidate assessments, presented five candidates, performed extensive referencing and negotiated the close.
