PROBLEM

Brookfield’s core infrastructure group sought a Vice President, Investments to join its Toronto office. This leading franchise sought top candidates who possessed a strong technical foundation, as well as superior execution skills, with strong mentorship and emerging stakeholder management skills. Key to success was finding a seasoned and mature individual who could bring leadership to the team, serving as “quarterback” on files, while remaining hands-on for transaction execution. We had a degree of flexibility on background (buyside, corporate development & sellside) and in terms of seniority – for more seasoned candidates, transaction sourcing, developing new transaction ideas were particularly important.

APPROACH

DES led a global search targeting candidates from Canada, the U.S., Asia, Western Europe and the U.K. Our efforts centered on both buyside (PE & Infra) & sellside candidates (investment bankers who covered Power, Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy & Transition sectors). We identified and attracted several Canadians abroad, as well as candidates in various provinces across the country for this role in Toronto. The selected candidate was promoted to SVP a year later.

During the mandate, the work yielded quick results and our scope increased, with DES being asked to lead several additional searches for the Infrastructure group. From this work, we have been retained by other groups within Brookfield, including BGTF and Brookfield Annuity Company, among others.
